Official migration path

AutoGen Studio is part of the AutoGen repo, whose README now says the project is archived and no longer maintained (no bug, security or feature fixes); new users are told to start with Microsoft Agent Framework. The official migration guide covers the AutoGen agent and team APIs, not the Studio UI.

Move to: Microsoft Agent Framework

  1. Install the successor with pip install agent-framework
  2. Rebuild each Studio agent as an agent_framework Agent(name=..., client=..., instructions=..., tools=[...]); tools are plain functions decorated with @tool
  3. Rebuild teams as workflows: RoundRobinGroupChat becomes SequentialBuilder(participants=[...]).build(), MagenticOneGroupChat becomes MagenticBuilder
  4. Follow the AutoGen to Microsoft Agent Framework migration guide for model clients, streaming, state and checkpointing
