Magnetic-One alternatives

Microsoft Research's generalist multi-agent system — Orchestrator + WebSurfer/FileSurfer/Coder/ComputerTerminal specialists. Built on AutoGen v0.4. Full Magnetic-One record →

Official migration path

Magentic-One ships in AutoGen (autogen-agentchat / autogen-ext), whose README now says the project is archived and no longer maintained (no bug or security fixes); Microsoft points users to Microsoft Agent Framework, which has a Magentic orchestration.

Move to: Microsoft Agent Framework

  1. Install the successor with pip install agent-framework
  2. Replace MagenticOneGroupChat(participants=..., model_client=...) with MagenticBuilder(participants=..., manager_agent=...) from agent_framework.orchestrations and call .build()
  3. Map the AutoGen termination condition to MagenticBuilder limits: max_round_count, max_stall_count and max_reset_count
  4. Run with workflow.run(task, stream=True) and read the final messages from events where event.type == 'output'
