Official migration path

Cipher was renamed ByteRover CLI (npm byterover-cli, command brv, Elastic License 2.0); the campfirein/byterover-cli repo was then archived read-only on 2026-09-27, while ByteRover docs still present the CLI as the current product.

Move to: ByteRover CLI (brv)

  1. Install the renamed package with npm install -g byterover-cli (or curl -fsSL https://byterover.dev/install.sh | sh) and verify with brv --version
  2. Repoint clones with git remote set-url origin https://github.com/campfirein/byterover-cli.git; old Cipher code is on the legacy-cipher branch
  3. Replace legacy brv push / brv pull with brv vc push / brv vc pull; brv space switch is deprecated in favour of brv vc clone or the web dashboard
  4. Note the license change to Elastic License 2.0 before redistributing or offering it as a service
